Portland Courtyard Housing

Competition Entry w/ Jefta van Bellen

The courtyards, loosely defined by the houses, connect in looped paths. The paths provide a link to the sidewalk, bridging public space with the courtyard. The housing units are designed with outwardly focused kitchens — providing a view to activity within the shared open spaces. There, children play as the colorful expression of their bedrooms engage them in the architecture of the enclave.

Shift/Slot House

Designed with Sunbiosis PLC

The Shift/Slot House, was designed for a future client near Batesville, Virginia in the Bundoran Farms community. It is sited in a clearing on a 12% slope; the massing draws from the rural vernacular of Virginia. The two masses comprising the layout are divided along a hallway and rise away from the slope. The 3 bedroom (1600 sf) structure features south-facing windows, which are fully shaded during the summer.
